03 July 2010 In the news today is a story about SSC's new initiative - the SwimSafer Programme (refer to the article here). The SwimSafer Programme is a new approach by SSC to impart Singaporeans, especially children, with the necessary water safety knowledge and a wide range of water survival skills as a safeguard against drowning. This is a 6-stage programme and more about the programme can be found in SSC's website. But allow me to bring special attention to the very 1st stage of this programme : ============================================================= Stage 1: Introduction to Water Skills The objective is for your child to gain confidence and develop independence in the water, as well as learn general and deep-end water safety. Techniques taught include forward and backward movement, entering and exiting the pool safely, and introduction to personal water survival skills. =============================================================
And this is what the SwimFin is all about.. gaining confidence and developing independence in the water!
09 June 2010 Singapore Sports Council has approved the use of SwimFin in all SSC Pools. Some parents have feedback that they were not allowed to use the SwimFin in the training pools. The SwinFin was only allowed to be used in the kids' wading pool. We have contacted SSC and given them a sample of the SwimFin for their review and they have given the green-light for the SwimFin to be used in all pools with immediate effect. So parents.. go out there and let yr lil' sharks swim free in our public pools!!
